Editorial: Yay for Pie!
The greatest thing about Olympia Pie Fest 2012 on February 18 wasn’t the pie. And it wasn’t the fact that OP&L publisher Matthew Green got to be a judge and eat free pie.
Nope, it was that several hundred people came to eat pie and support the Thurston County Food Bank and the Senior Nutrition Program at Senior Services for South Sound.
We love — luuuuuuvv — these kinds of have-fun-and-raise-money-because-that’s-just-what-we-do events, and we pledge to cover the heck out of them whenever we can. Even if we’re not judges. But we do like being judges. Especially of pie.
Congratulations to Leslie Brodie for winning the grand prize with her carmelized pear & almond pie, Madeline for first place in the teen division for her apple pie, and Genevieve and Fiona for first place in the youth division for their apple & strawberry pie. And especially to Olympia Bakers Guild for making it happen! (Learn more about them at www.olybakers.com.) ◙
