Procession of the Species, Artswalk 2010

Say hey good friends,

Late, this past Friday night (January 20th), someone climbed over the partition wall of our office in the Procession of the Species Community Art Studio and stole our complete Mac set-up. What that included was: a Mac powerbook laptop; Mini Mac with separate flat screen; keyboard, mouse and all the cords, chargers and transformers. Everything was in the standard Mac white casing. Nothing was ransacked; no desk drawers gone through; no doors kicked-in; no printers stolen. It was, by all appearances, pretty specific and not at all random when one considers what was left behind.
Our main door into the studio was still locked early Saturday morning when we arrived. At that time we found the office door open and the computers stolen. The access doorway between the art studio and the Royal Bar was unlocked. The two rear doors exiting out the back of the studio, which are dead-bolted and can only be unlocked from the inside, were found unlocked, left ajar, and appear as the presumed exit for the intruder.
People were working in the art studio until late afternoon that Friday and confirmed that everything was locked-up when leaving. We filed our report with the police when they arrived.
We have kept everything backed-up, so other than the expense of replacing the stolen computers themselves – and the inevitable wrinkles associated with some of the recent back-ups not being read by our older computers which we are using now – we are in good shape to carry-on with this year’s Procession.
Other than that, not much to be done about it. Our annual insurance (we pay $2-thousand per year for $2-million in coverage) is for all of our various event liabilities and does not cover the stolen computers.
The biggest task at hand is to spread the word about the 2012 Illuminated Ball on Saturday, February 4th. We are way behind on ticket sales and the Ball is our biggest fundraiser as a means to keeping the community art studio supplied and open for creating the Procession.
So yes, while this is all a major disappointment — it is only that, a disappointment. There are far worse senarios for many others during these past days. As always, we remain fortunate in our opportunity of providing a Procession Art Studio for our community.
All the finest!
Eli
