Hey everyone, my name’s Berd (or you can call me Robert, or Rob, if you prefer). I grew up in South Minneapolis, Minnesota, and I have been living in Olympia for 9 years. I did environmental studies, humanities and liberal arts at Evergreen and graduated in 2007. I love nature, walks in the woods. Growing up, my passion was for sailing.
About me: I am a spiritual “warrior.” My mission is to make the world peaceful, and stable, so that all people (all beings) may be happy. The tools of my trade are truth, force of experience, and a heart full of compassion and caring. I do a lot of volunteer work, like at the Food Co-op, Family Support Center Shelter for homeless families, Olympia Fellowship of Reconciliation (a group focused on raising awareness of peace, justice, and nonviolence), OlyBlog.net, and Works in Progress, and maybe a couple others. I also try to get paying work when possible.
Lately I have been living in the Olympia Occupy Wall Street Solidarity Village. I have never worked so hard in 33 years! The camp has been amazing. The support coming in from the community at large is phenomenal. I am seeing friendships form, and people who might not normally meet and interact are having conversations and building relationships.
It’s awesome. The spirit of challenging systemic corruption, validating each others’ experiences, and empowering each other to access the truth of our personal experiences is extraordinary.
So that’s what I think is an important and valuable use of my time. It doesn’t pay, but the work is priceless. And it is more fun and meaningful than I can express.
One of my favorite aspects of village life is the sense of purpose and belonging. Where this will all go, maybe no one knows. But the potential is exciting. The possibility of cultural transformation, a world where people and the planet are not subjugated to the accumulation of wealth. I like to envision a village “army” of citizen lobbyists, an empowered and dignified band of merry folks, peacefully descending upon the legislative session, to contrast the honorable work to better the world, with the shameful practices of megalomaniacal corporate power, and all of the associated destruction that has been wrought.
I am not necessarily looking for a long-term relationship or any serious commitment. Mostly, I am just looking to have fun on a Fortnightly Single date!
Thank you!
If you would like go on a date with Berd, write a bit about why, include a pic or two, and send it to olympiapowerandlight@ gmail.com. If Berd picks you, it’s on!
