The only way I can describe my recent lunch at the Sidewalk Café is… lovely.
My son and I walked down from the market, where we got peaches, tomatoes, fennel and carrots. We walked into the cool, inviting restaurant and ordered a Panini. By cool, I don’t mean air conditioned – I mean, lovely fresh air blowing through.
This is a great spot. They have indoor seating and patio seating. The staff is really friendly, and they have nice music playing in the background and a spread of really delicious food!
We got the turkey bacon grilled sandwich – and it was delicious! The rosemary olive oil bread was amazing, and it was spread with delicious pesto, provolone cheese, thick, delicious bacon, and melt in your mouth turkey, and served with kettle chips.
On the side we got a limonata to drink. They have a nice selection of drinks in their cooler case.
We also got a slice of buttermilk pie. I had planned to eat one bite and then take the rest home to hubby, but all I can say is, “sorry, hubby.” I had one bite and it reminded me of an impossible pie I made a few months back. I saved a few bites for my son, but I couldn’t help but enjoy the slice.
We got our order to go and headed over to Percival Landing Park, which was actually the perfect place to eat on a summer day – seagulls flying overhead, sea breezes floating by, sunshine, kids playing – perfect.
The restaurant has a variety of pies including marionberry, baked goods, like loaf cake and bread pudding, Olympic Mountain Ice Cream in seven flavors, and Mudd Bay Coffee.
They have teas, a fruit smoothie, soup of the day, salads, breakfast wraps and a daily special of soup and salad for $6.
After our time at the park and delicious lunch we walked back to the farmers market and headed home. This is definitely a great walk from the market, or a great stop to get lunch and enjoy it at the park or waterfront. ◙
The Sidewalk Cafe is located at 601 N. Capitol Way, about one block south of the farmer’s market.
