Jo Gallaugher

First we misspelled her name. Then we misspelled her email.

So, once again, if you want to tell Jo Gallaugher about products and services that you would like to see – and would buy – in downtown Olympia, as part of our Emerging Storefronts Project, stop by Matter Gallery at 115 – 5th Avenue or email her at jojo@matteroly.com.

Economic Development Council

In our editorial about Duck the Malls and local economic development, we left some things unclear about the Economic Development Council.

We said they receive about $100,000 from local governments. To be precise, they received $78,250 from local governments in 2009.

We said they receive funds from Thurston County. They have in the past, and may in the future, but did not in 2009.

Perhaps most importantly, we noted that membership in the Economic Development Council costs $500, with higher-priced options up to $10,000. That’s correct but, as EDC director Michael Cade points out, a local small business does not need to be a member to take advantage from EDC services. In particular, the Business Resource Center gave over 2,300 hours of small business counseling last year.
